Advanced Cruising Standard

Shoulder Season: $2,438 (October – May) Summer Season: $2,544 (June – September)

Per person, plus GST. Includes meals aboard, fuel, moorage, Sail Canada certification fees and all booking fees.

Learn to take command. Over 7 days aboard, you’ll build on your Intermediate training and act as skipper and crew, day and night, including a passage of 48 hours or more. Maximum 4 students.

Course Overview

This course develops your ability to safely skipper a sailing cruiser of 10 to 15 metres, by day and night, within 100 nautical miles of shore.

Prerequisites

Required for Certification

  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) or equivalent
  • Recognized Standard First Aid and CPR certificate

Key Learning Objectives

  • Taking command of the vessel as skipper, under sail and power.
  • Making a passage of 48 hours or more, day and night.
  • Sail selection and sail shape for the conditions.
  • Coastal piloting, and mooring and anchoring under sail.
  • Handling emergencies, including crew overboard.
  • Heavy weather preparation and weather forecasting.

Course Format

7 Day, Liveaboard Sailing Lessons. Cabins are shared when needed.

What to Bring

  • Your own PFD with harness, to offshore standards
  • All-weather gear appropriate for offshore sailing
  • Pillow and sleeping bag. If you can’t bring your own, contact us and we’ll arrange it.
  • Water shoes and hiking shoes
  • Spare clothes for 7 days
  • Towel, toiletries, and personal items
  • Sunscreen
