Basic Crew Standard – No prior experience needed.

Basic Cruising Standard – You have prior sailing experience and are ready for the next step.

**Prerequisites – Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate – you can add this in the sign-up process if needed

Basic Crew Standard:  You need to be able to assist the skipper. If you have little or no sailing experience sign up for the Basic Crew standard. To achieve “Basic Crew”, you are taught all the same technical skills, however, it is not necessary to demonstrate competence in all aspects. The Skipper’s responsibility is the safety of the boat and crew. The Crew’s responsibility is to assist the Skipper in achieving that goal.

Basic Cruising (Skipper) Certificate:  A higher standard of proficiency is required. You have some sailing experience. Perhaps you have sailed before or have a fair amount of experience on other vessels. To be awarded the Basic Cruising Standard, you will need to demonstrate that you can be in charge of the boat & crew and act as a skipper through all the manoeuvres. We would expect some boating experience and you would come to the course with some practical skills. (for example, you already have PCOC and related experience)
