Ready to put your certification to work? Our Mileage Builder sessions are designed for certified sailors who want to build real sea time, deepen their practical skills, and grow their confidence through extended liveaboard training in the Gulf Islands.

These are active, instructor-led training sessions — not charters. You are the crew.

Course Overview

Who This Is For

This program is designed for students who have completed the Sail Canada Basic Crew standard and are ready to continue their sailing education in a liveaboard format.

Whether you are working toward greater independence as a skipper, logging structured sea time, or developing skills beyond the classroom, these sessions are tailored to your goals and experience level.

These sessions are also well suited to couples or small groups with mixed experience levels. Each student is coached individually, so everyone progresses at their own pace — together, on the same boat.

  • Apply and build on skills developed in your Sail Canada keelboat training
  • Develop passage planning and on-water decision-making
  • Practice sail handling, navigation, and boat management over distance
  • Build confidence in anchoring, docking, and overnight vessel routines
  • Gain structured, documented sea time as part of your sailing record

4 nights / 5 days — Liveaboard Format Capacity: Maximum 4 students Departure: Canoe Cove Marina, Sidney, BC Sailing Area: Gulf Islands, BC

Prerequisites

Sail Canada Basic Crew standard or equivalent experience

Add-Ons

Sail Canada standard registration fee — applicable if student elects to challenge a certification during the session (fee varies by standard)

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

Big Blue Sailing is a dedicated Recreational Boating School (RBS). All liveaboard training is conducted on vessels enrolled in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program (SVCP) and maintained to TP 15136 standards.
